What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that helps people understand and manage intense emotions, reduce harmful or impulsive behaviors, improve relationships, and build a more stable, meaningful life. Originally developed for individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, DBT is now widely used in South Africa and internationally to support people facing emotional dysregulation, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, depression, post-traumatic stress, eating disorders, substance use challenges, relationship difficulties, and neurodevelopmental needs, including support for individuals on the autism spectrum.
DBT combines individual therapy with practical skills training in Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. It is not only a set of skills, but a principle-based therapeutic approach that helps people explore the deeper patterns, triggers, beliefs, and life experiences that fuel emotional overwhelm. Within a compassionate and increasingly neurodiversity-affirmative framework, DBT focuses on reducing harm, strengthening self-understanding, building practical coping skills, and creating real, sustainable change in daily life.

Meet Our Team
Jeromy Mostert
Jeromy embarked on his journey with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in 2018 and quickly recognized its transformative potential. Inspired by its effectiveness, he pursued advanced training in DBT tailored for substance use disorders and complex trauma, enhancing his ability to assist clients with emotional dysregulation. His clinical practice is now fully committed to helping individuals manage their emotions, thoughts, behaviors. Jeromy is passionate about making DBT both accessible and effective for clients and the professionals who support them. Through the DBT Foundation, he offers extensive training and supervision to mental health practitioners in various environments, having trained over 150 professionals to confidently implement DBT with integrity and skill. Jeromy is dedicated to creating a compassionate, evidence-informed community for clients and clinicians alike.
